OTAGO: Strength and Balance

Exercises to help improve lower limb strength, balance, and mobility, reducing the risk of falls in older people

STARTING TUESDAY 27th JANUARY

What is OTAGO: Strength & Balance?

The New Zealand Falls Prevention Research Group developed and tested the Otago Exercise Program (OEP) to reduce falls in older persons. It consists of 17 strength and balance exercises demonstrating a 35-40% reduction in falls for participants.

Making up Level 2 of our Falls Management programme, this series of strength and balance exercises, which also features a walking programme, is designed to help you build confidence in carrying out your day-to-day activities.

Who is it Best For?

OTAGO is good for people recovering from injuries of the lower body, post-surgery. It is particularly beneficial for older adults living independently and wishing to maintain their functional abilities, as well as those who have experienced a decline in their physical function and want to improve their strength and balance to reduce their risk of falls.

This evidence-based program combines strength and balance exercises to help improve lower limb strength, balance, and mobility, reducing the risk of falls and related injuries.
